Sicily Touchdown

I'm finally catching back up with everything here at home and tonight started sorting through some of my picks from Sicily. Wow, what a trip! I highly recommend it for a cultural, hiking, rock climbing, scuba diving, relaxing, beachy, gastric and party type holiday ;-)

The flight into Palermo is awesome as you get a great first impression of what the mainland is like with the landing strip squeexed between the coast on one side and a mountain range on the other. My touristy side caught the better of me and I asked for a pick the second I climbed down out the back of the plane:

Radio reception was pretty touch and go around much of the island, but when you could get it nothing beat the sweet rockin' tunes of Radio Margherita!

More pics to come as soon as I can get them formatted and ordered. Did I mention not a drop of rain the entire time?! :-)

Sicilian Laundry

After hanging out in many parts of Europe for various periods of time over the past 6 years you tend to get used to the hanging laundry outside balcony windows in the lower heat filled countries like Italy. It was taken to a new level in Sicily. Every back-alley appartment/house/condo/shed/shack/box seemed to have their laundry outside their windows. Quite a sight in some cities where even the main shopping districts had their "dirty laundry hung out to dry" ;-)

Even more disconcerting was the fact that over the course of the past 2 weeks in Sicily I started to turn into... well, a Sicilian! One o'clock afternoon siesta's, pasta-filled meals and argumentative wrist waving seemed to be just another day on the trip. By the end we were even won over by balcony laundry hanging... so gehtto style. Here's my digs (and shame) for everyone and their neighbour to see:

Hamburger SV Blows Hamburgers

Read it and weep Karlsruhe Kris!!! You can't believe how good it was at the stadium! Thank heavens you didn't go to the game with us in Stuttgart!!! :-) :-) Go Kickers Go!!! :-) :-p

Side note: Once again Bayern Munich needed the typical help from the referees and an "own goal" from the other team to pull out a victory in their first round German Pokal tournament. Crooked bastards!

A glorious day none-the-less in the Bundeslande! :-)
