I'm reevaluating my backup strategy. Currently I use time machine for my system and carbon copy cloner for my media. With a larger single drive to take care of both my system's and my media's backup needs I was going to simply have time machine backup both onto the one drive. I would prefer to use time machine but when I examine it's backup folder, it's nothing I can navigate through to find a lost file, it appears like I would have to rely upon the time machine itself to recover something.

If you go a few levels deep in the Finder, you will find folders with a date as their name, each containing a complete copy of your hard drive as it was at the time of the backup.

I think the reasoning behind this is that the RAW importer has some settings that are individual to each Camera, rather than just being something that can import a certain file format. So officially to get the best results Apple needs to tune the importer to each camera.

Still it would be nice if they just supported the "unsupported" cameras with some default settings.
Why couldn't the camera-specific details live on a central website that the software drivers could pick up "live" when needed, and cache for later, so we wouldn't keep having to pick up these updates to keep up?

The reason the Dell takes so long is not the hardware. It's Windows. You are choosing between a Macbook and a Macbook Pro, eh?

Why don't you consider the 11 inch Macbook Air? It is almost instant on with the 64 Gig SSD and is the same price as the Macbook. You already have an iMac for your heavy lifting so why get a MBP when you can get away with the less capable but much lighter MBA?

I have a 3 year old white Macbook. I would like a MBP but I don't need a MBP. If you do go for the Macbook, it's not a bad machine but it's a LOT slower than the new 13 inch MBP. I wouldn't bother with any RAM or HDD upgrades on any Apple system as Apple tends to charge A LOT for upgrades. Go for the base model and it will do fine for web browsing, movies, garage band, etc.

One caveat. If you're creating huge files you might consider the MBP for more internal storage. Personally, I've gotten to the point I'd rather plug in a $99 external 1TB drive when I need to work on huge files and have a 64 Gig SSD base MBA. I'm considering getting one for my wife and I know she'll love it.

Again, I only recommend the MBA because you mention limited or light gaming. The MBA is not meant as a gaming machine but more as a light weight note taking machine. Oh. I should mention that if you want to deal with audio in garage band, both the MBA and MBP base models have some limitations. There is a single input output jack rather than separate jacks you would get on the 15 in MBP. This might be a big deal to somebody working with music. Once again, I wouldn't let something like this push me into a more expensive heavier machine when there are usb microphones around for $99 or less.

    hope this helps...

Every Friday, Engadgetmobile.com posts the most recent FCC filings for wireless phones. Until something like an iPhone comes through the FCC, it won't happen in the United States. I imagine that other countries have similar regulatory comittees with similar public filings. Wanna find the iPhone? Keep your eyes peeled there.

Consequently, I'm not sure how His Steveness will be able to keep this thing a secret since FCC filings are public. Most likely, it'll be filed under Apple, and we'll all know about it before it's formally introduced. Or else it'll be filed under the name of another manufacturer, in an attempt to keep it secret. Either way, anyone watching the FCC filings like a hawk should be able to spot anything even remotely Appleish in terms of it's design aesthetic.

It doesn't have to go through the FCC until it's ready to be produced. If Apple wants to keep it secret, they can announce it @ MacWorld and release it a couple of months later.

belkin has some, but the order pages just say "coming soon", I don't even think you can pre-order.

Scosche has some pretty nice looking ones, you can pre-order now, they ship "mid September"

    From Apple's new site:

"Source code for the kernel of Mac OS X 10.4.7 for Intel are now available. Several changes were made in order to publish the kernel (xnu) sources. As a result, the kernel built from these sources differs from the one found in the 10.4.7 software update. In order to accommodate these changes, several kernel extensions were also modified and must be downloaded and installed in order to run a kernel built from these sources on Mac OS X 10.4.7 for Intel."

So they haven't released the version of the kernel that is 10.4.7 as open source, they've just released something very closely resembling it, with no public comment about what's different, near as I can tell so far.

Use redsnow to fix the 1 bar problem.

I don't want to upgrade my baseband, I would rather keep the value of my phone.

I have the Altec Lansing 2.1 FX 6021 speakers and they are awesome.

Unfortunately the sub blew and was searching for a similar type of audio performance/design/price range for 2.1 speakers.

Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would go with M-Audio AV-40s (2.0 but good bass response) or Logitech Z-2300. Personally I use both. The M-Audio speakers are Pro-grade and provide really clear sound. The Z-2300's have good sound and more "power".

    Cheers

    Perfect browser?

Why you hate safari so much?

I dislike Safari because it doesn't have a "tabs" like feature whereas perfect browser does.

Also I use the browser changer tweak from cydia, but as i stated I do miss the Autofill feature from safari.

I forgot to add you should uninstall Kazaa first from the control panel. I doubt that will trash all the spyware but my deactivate some of it.

Your best bet, boot into safe mode (instructions above) uninstall Kazaa, restart then download the programs mentioned above.

I've been told by someone I know 'in-the-trade' that AA and RAC staff are rather hit and miss. Infact, his words, 'I'd rather have a blind monkey repair my car than them morons'. Tough break on the Mini edesign, hope it gets sorted. Keep us posted.

Selling, iPhone 8GB Unlocked to use for T-Mobile or any other carrier. Have a protective cover on the screen. It comes with a Black Monster/LRG Carrying case. The Case's belt holster is broken (so you can't put it through your belt vertically) but beyond that its all good.

Phone's Condition: Fair/Good. It's used, slight scratching from the back. Headphone's kinda worn, but usable. No broken wire where one side of the ear can't be heard, etc.

Comes with original box for both Phone and Carrying case. DOES NOT INCLUDE WALL CHARGER. Apparently, the seller who sold this phone to me didn't have it

Price: $400 shipped or PM me your offers.

    Sold. Thanks for looking
