Piece Of Charlie Sheen's Mind

Nice to see that Charlie Sheen has a fall back as Iron Maiden's mascot Eddie. Or perhaps Dave MacDowell just sees where Sheen's Torpedo of Truth is headed.

The Choice Is Made! The Traveller Has Come!

"I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never, ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay Puft." (Who Ya' Gunna Call? by Dave MacDowell for Lowbrow Love Letter)

Andy Burger: 15 Minutes of Flame Broiled Madness

I would totally eat at an Andy Warhol-themed burger joint or play Warhol's Angry Birds, at least until that game's 15-minutes were up. Dave MacDowell's Angry Warhol for the Warhol Reimagined show. Looking forward to seeing some of the other participants.

I Get High With A Little Help From Vermeer

Would you believe in a love at first sight?
Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time.
What do you see when you turn out the light?
I can't tell you, but I know it's mine.
Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm I get high with a little help from my friends,
Oh, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends

Pretty In Pink, Isn't She?

Oh Molly, will you ever end up with a boy that's right for you? I mean, of course not, the '80s are long gone, but Dave MacDowell perfectly captures her pining for the upcoming John Hughes tribute show at Gallery 1988.

And here's the Psychedelic Furs to get you in the proper mood:

What's This? It's Richard Pryor Running Down The Street

Dave MacDowell takes on Richard Pryor's most infamous moment for Gallery 1988 and Funny or Die's new show, Is This Thing On?

Drake Brodhal takes on Gilbert Gottfried as the parrot Iago, but in an even more annoying fashion. I don't know how Jafar can stand it.

You Didn't Think It Would Be That Easy, Did You, Hello Kitty?

In a showdown between Gogo Yubari and Hello Kitty, my money's on the Japanese toy. You just can't fight that kind of oppressive cuteness. (Kitty Fight! by Dave MacDowell, for the Small Gift Sanrio show showing at Art Basel Miami December 2-5)

Pop Culture Last Supper

Dave MacDowell once again makes my brain hurt with his pop culture-stuffed paintings, this time a Popped Culture favourite, the Last Supper. Is that Robert Redford's The Candidate as Judas and Olivia Newton-John's Sandy as the apostle John, (or Mary Magdelene)?

The rest, from the left: Optimus Prime, Chewbacca, Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette from True Romance, Johnny Depp from 21 Jump Street, Brad Pitt from Fight Club, Andy Wharol, Cornelius from Planet of the Apes and Hong Kong Phooey. Not sure who is on the far right. Anyone?

They Saved Mickey's Brain!

Sure, injecting Colt 45 directly into Mickey Mouse's disembodied brain might bring him back from the dead, but if the Stephen King and The Ramones have taught me anything is that you don't want to be buried in a pet cemetery. You won't like what comes back. On a related note, Minnie has certainly, um, filled out over the years. (My Beloved by Dave MacDowell)
