Music: Reporter
Reporter are a three piece from Portland, Oregon doing what I am really happy to describe as Goth Disco. I'm sure comparisons can easily be drawn from Crystal Castles latest album. But these guys don't seem like they'd spit in your face...and I like that.

Eva Longoria’s Robert Rodriguez Emmy dress is a split decision
Eva Longoria’s Robert Rodriguez Emmy dress is a split decision
They say that first impressions are one of the most important parts of human interaction, and my first impression of Eva Longoria’s black Robert Rodriguez Black Label gown at last night’s 2010 Emmy Awards was…not good. And despite all of the great pictures I’ve seen of it afterward, I just can’t shake that initial feeling.
If you look closely at the gown’s bodice, you can see that it has two horizontal bands running around it, one above and one below the stomach. When I initially saw the dress on the E! red carpet coverage, it’s possible that the angle was just bad or Longoria was slouching a bit, but the placement of those two bands made her look like she had a big tummy pooch. I don’t think she does; it appears to just be an effect of the way the dress was constructed. But the gown is certainly requiring her to deal with significant corsetry to keep its shape, and with that in mind, it shouldn’t be creating that effect at all, ever.

Jennifer Carpenter wore the best dress that no one’s talking about
Jennifer Carpenter wore the best dress that no one’s talking about
a few people have mentioned Dexter’s Jennifer Carpenter on their lists of well-dressed starlets at the 2010 Emmy Awards, but very little mention of her was made during the fashion pre-shows or by people documenting the event live via the internet. Her shimmering asymmetrical Oday Shakar gown caught me by complete surprise when I was flipping through last night’s photos this morning, and several fashion sites don’t even have the designer credited.

I normally keep a lookout for Carpenter and her husband and TV brother Michael C. Hall on the red carpet because I’m such a Dexter fangirl, and she almost always looks flawless, but she’s outdone herself here. I love long-sleeved asymmetrical necklines on the red carpet because they’re so bold and real-world inappropriate, and the shimmering gunmetal of her dress is every bit as beautiful as the shimmering Armani champagne worn by Claire Danes.
Susan Sarandon sparkles in Donna Karan with daughter Eva Amurri in vintage Thierry Mugler
Susan Sarandon sparkles in Donna Karan with daughter Eva Amurri in vintage Thierry Mugler
If a mother’s appearance is any indication of how her daughter will age, Eva Amurri has a lot to look forward to. Mom Susan Sarandon’s good genes have already blessed her with an enviable figure and acting chops, and last night in vintage Thierry Mugler at the 2010 Emmy Awards, Amurri seemed poised to take things to the next level.
Somehow, though, my eyes keep going back to Sarandon in her utterly perfect sequined black Donna Karan dress when I look at pictures of the two of them. Sarandon is such a master of dressing her body and Karan is such a master of the black dress for women of any age that the combination of the two is a match made in sartorial heaven. I hope I look half as good now as Sarandon did last night, let alone when I’m old enough to have a grown daughter.
