Exactly. Its basically a very close proximity detector.

What you see here is classic:
    1) iPod is famous
    2) I want to be famous
    3) Tell the media the iPod will help stalkers kill you
    4) Profit

I don't think I've ever heard of "Far Proximity"........since the definition of "Proximity" is "Close to".

So "Close Proximity" basically means "Close Close".

Called every AT&T store in my area (Exton, PA) and not a single person had a clue about the white iPhone. One lady said "I think it's all just hype, we have no information on any incoming shipments". So unless they were just misinformed or hiding something, it doesn't look like they will have any in stock tomorrow. Called my local Apple store and the guy gave a really generic corporate response along the lines of "if you don't see it on the apple site I don't know anything about it". Sounded kind of fishy to me.

If the AT&T stores really don't get them in stock tomorrow, why did numerous international carriers get them in? Since apple sent them white units, why haven't they made a press release?

The white iphone has been very mysterious since the beginning.

    Bad move...

Obviously, there is huge demand for cheaper Macs. Cheap doesn't equal bad!

The reason there is a huge demand for cheaper Macs is simply because you can buy an HP for so little. If PCs started in price at $599, you wouldn't see people bellyaching about Mac prices. It's a market driven effect that really doesn't reflect the real market value of a PC in my opinion. Everyone trying to undercut each other just a little bit untill eventually everyone is cutting bone.

There is no reason this wouldn't work.

It wouldn't work. The reason PCs can be sold for that little is that the companies making them:

    1) Don't do much of their own R&D work (they mostly follow others' lead)
    2) Are making the costs up in volume (and Apple's volume isn't quite what Dell's is).
    3) They offer inferior customer service to what I think most people here would argue is Apple's norm.
    4) They have no software development costs. Think of all the programs that come on your Mac for free, not to mention OSX itself. PC makers are paying a licence fee to Microsoft that is paltry (and M$ makes it up on volume) but Apple has to fund development of OSX and the iApps somehow, and part of that higher Mac price goes to fund them. PC makers bundle lots of trialware and other software other companies have spent the development costs to make.

I go to the same school as the original poster and I can tell everyone here that our IT department is absoloutely useless! Upon disscussion with around 90% of the teachers in school, every single one of them agree. The person who took is MBA from him is really awful and it pains me to even think about the fact he has any authority, I have seen many mistakes he's made which clearly shows to me that his knowledge of technology is severely limited and I have no idea how he got the job. It's certain that is very sour about his lack of power in the establishment and takes every oppurtunity to attempt to excercise any punishment. I'm not really a mac user, and so have a couple of normal PCs which I regularly take into school with me. No teacher has ever had a problem, and the same person who confiscated the MBA has seen me using it multiple times without issue. There is no policy that restricts the use of personal laptops, although phones are banned. In fact, most of my teachers reccomend and encourage to use of our laptops because they are much better and have better software. It seems to me that he was just very jealous about the fact he is too low paid to afford a mac and felt the need to try and confiscate it. For the record, the network is completely secure and encrypted, there are several routers around the school which are inaccessable so any communication with them is impossible without knowing the passkey. Also, the network is based around several servers which are all protected by hardware firewalls and protection devices and I know for a fact it is impossible for any computer unregistered and recognised to the network to have any connection so really it's complete BS the department have no idea what they are on about :')

I admit that this part of the droid incredible that I demo'ed was sweet. Hopefully in 5 nav will get better...

It just blows my mind every time something like this happens how many people have ridiculous blanket statements, or advice for companies that make more money than the majority of us can even fathom.

Or how they completely discredit companies that have been major players in their respective markets for decades.

Can anyone in this forum really say they've accomplished more than Nokia has as a company?

If so, by all means please step forward and impart some knowledge upon us.

    In other words: "Maybe."
Maybe it will be released at the end of June.

    That's a DEFINITE Maybe !

More importantly will it come in white (wah) and
how long will it take for Android to copy it?

I hear it has triple Retina, with multiple message bounce back.

Dual ply throttlers for Wifi Boosting and Thunderbolt Flash marking!

    Now top that Android!

Ah, computer vision guys. We know that from Grenoble there are very strong developments in this area. I am working more in Image Processing with some usage of computer vision... new ways of communication and latest developments in machine learning and computer vision sometimes sprang out in quite surprising solutions!

Definitely, it will be interesting to see how it will develop.

Though, i love more that music in background :)

I had no idea how cricket was played until this past week while in India. It seems that cricket is quite popular there, and was one of the few sports available in English on the tele, so I watched it. After a little while I was able to figure out the basics - overs, wickets, bowlers, etc. - as wells as how the scoring works.

What I find amazing is how long the matches (tests?) last. There was a news story about a growing trend - "3 hour cricket". Sounds good to me!

Turns out a guy I work with used to play cricket (he's from Jamaica) so he was giving me some more information about the game. It's pretty cool.

I'd have been sold on the 11" if it didn't have nearly 4" worth of bezel. I currently have a 13" MBA and I really hope the next true redesign addresses the bezel issue. I'd love to have a 13" screen on a MBA that has the footprint of the 11" That's really the only thing that will get me to upgrade my MBA. Sandy Bridge refresh is nice, but not reason enough for me to upgrade.

For those 13" owners who are bothered with the fan noise, you really should check out coolbook. I've been running it since I first learned about it and its been fantastic. Battery lasts longer, MBA runs a lot cooler and fan speed has NEVER hit full speed since I started running it.

It is a shame that Coolbook will not work with the SB version of the MBA when it comes out....

who needs 8gb, sheesh. i barely use 2gb of my 4gb of ram as it is. even using photoshop, I have never seen it max out.

I like the way you say that when my free memory currently is 9Mb (Yes, Megabytes) out of 12Gb. [1Gb inactive]

I thought 6Gb was enough, it clearly isn't.

I loved the first Portal and The Orange Box, but $50 for Portal 2 seems kind of steep to me.

How is $50 for a new video game "kind of steep"? The price of video games has not changed too much in the past several decades. I paid $45 for Quest for Glory 2, which came out in 1990, which is not too far off from $50 (inflation not included, either). With the exception of new A-list games on PS3 and Xbox 360 (generally starting closer to $60), the price of many games has gone down, especially for PCs.

It might be interesting to see if games for phones become a profitable revenue stream for game developers since they can skip several of the middle men via downloading games, instead of through traditional retail.

One thing which has surprised me is how many Portal 2 advertisements I've seen on buses or billboards. I've rarely seen video games advertised to such an extent, so that was certainly different.

My wife and I adore our two MBA 11" 4Gb Ram 64 SSD refurbs, both are awaiting install of a 360 OWC SSD in each, then they will become our main machines:eek:, Mine will share duty with my 1st gen iPad, and hers will share duties with the iPad 2. We so love the size and weight of our iPads, we chose to downsize to the 11"MBA as well.

The overlay input device would obviously need to replace the laptop's keyboard, but plugging in an external keyboard would be easy enough.

Plug in... Bluetooth. Either way, interesting concept.

The build up for the Apple-branded cell phone has been such that it would be nearly impossible to live up to the expectations. The "Chocolate" phone that came out recently could have been in anticipation of an offering from Apple, but if that's all Apple's version is designed to compete with, it'll be easy for me to stay away.

I tend to think that some of these rumors aren't discrete products as much as they are consolidated into a few products.
