I just did a clean install of ios 4.3.3 and the lock screen and other animations are very smooth! Reminds me of 4.2.1 all over again. I also have restrictions enabled and have disabled itunes, youtube, facetime and ping (none of these features are necessary for me), but this update seems to improve UI animations...good luck!

Sounds great so far. Will probably get the x360 version but good to see new games releasing on day one for the Mac.

Cool. Thanks for contributing something insightful and interesting, MikeELL (unlike some folks--like me).
Heh. Cheers, mate.
I figure if I had as much R&D funding as NASA (perhaps more), these are the kind of things I'd be looking at.
Off topic, but I wonder if these alloys have the potential to be strong enough to build a space elevator. They're currently at about 1.7GPa, which is about the level of high-tensile steel. 62GPa is required for the space elevator (carbon nanotubes have theoretical potentials of 200+ GPa - but no one can get them more than a few centimetres long so far).

Is there any benefit of HDMI if you won't be using the HD-DVD's, and you only have a 720P TV?
Even with HDDVD I don't see a benifit. Component is fine. The only advantage HDMI gives is it carries digital audio as well. This is not that big of a deal since the Xbox also has optical out.
HDMI is DVI with audio. The resolution will stay the same, quality will stay the same. HDMI is easier to connect but if your already running with component there is no need to go changing everything up for something thats going to improve it very little, if at all

Perhaps iLife 07 will see some major enhancements and as a result, be released in tandem with Leopard to capitallize on certain functionality/integration.

Oooh.... dangerous territory. I wouldn't call engineer 'types' uncreative. Very unwise.
But look guys, Calm Down. There is no right solution for the 'professional' editor. Walter Murch, one of the best narrative film editors in the world, cuts on Final Cut Pro. Thelma Schoonmaker, often considered THE best editor in the world (if such hierarchy has any plausibility), cuts on a beta release of Lightworks. Anything that 'does the job' can therefore be considered 'professional grade software'. I find it hard to believe that some people here can't see Final Cut X being used by the most talented and serious professionals.

You are not comparing like with like. The comparable model to a Mac Pro is the Dell Precision T5500 and specced up the Dell is about $1,000 more than the Mac Pro. :p
He is comparing like with like!
The comparable model to the base Mac Pro (SP workstation) is the T3500.

A pair of binoculars can pretty much accomplish the same thing, no?
I'd be surprised if you even needed binoculars at 60ft, I could probably track them without glasses at that distance (which I wear all the time).

He'll probably only tell half the story and you'll have to buy the updated edition to hear it all.
Just read an unauthorized biography - they usually also contain the not so popular details about the person and allow for a look at their dark side.
"The book of Jobs"... sounds so megalomaniac biblical. It probably also defines the tone of the book that the author was "authorized" to use when talking about His Steveness. A side-by-side comparison of "iCon" with "iSteve" might be quite interesting.

When you look at component pricing and workstation pricing, you'll find that where really jacks up their margins, especially compared to the competition, is in the CPUs. That said, any upgrades over the base model, again really increases their margins - an upgraded CPU would cost far more than the equivalent upgrade in a competitor's workstation.
Also, don't ever buy RAM from .
Some people do appreciate the design decisions has made, and it seems like it would cost a lot for competitors to replicate the case, so there's that.

Very cool, but I love the contrast of the screen with the blam bezel.
The White iPad 2 is pure butter. Id love to see the iP5 have a similar design (back to the Aluminum backing)

... but if you're talking about regular americans and their ability cooperate during tough times all you have to do is look to the out-pouring of goodwill in the aftermath of 9/11.
Why not look at how divided we've become in the few years since 9/11?
Whatever lessons we could have learned about cooperation and mutual respect have quickly evaporated.
What good is a disaster if you don't actually learn from it?

Each civilization in history usually goes through the following 4 phases:
1. A great war
2. A period of economic growth
3. Decadence
4. Fall
The entire Western civilization has been in the 3rd phase for quite a while, don't you think?
EDIT: Oh, and by the way - there is no reason to be disturbed by this. In the end, we are all going to die anyway, aren't we? Fix the problems you can solve and let the rest go to hell if it wishes to do so! Memento mori - and be happy!
Well if you use that analogy, I wouldn't say the "American Empire" is in that "3. Decadence" phase.
It's actually still in "2. A period of economic growth".
Just because we were in a deep recession (which happened to be global) doesn't mean that we haven't "expanded". If you think about it, Iraq was the most recent "significant expansion" in the modern sense. It's not the same as British colonialism where we "captured the land to farm on and enslaved the people". But we don't need that stuff anymore and instead we have secured the oil, and prolly Iraqis will become like cheap labor in a couple of years. Maybe Afghans too will play a big role in making toys and stuff, who knows. Iran is next I'm guessing, by the way things are going. SE Asia, etc. still haven't "declared independance and broken away" by historic analogy...as they are still making our clothes, amoung other things. Speaking of which, Mexico is also a cheap manufacturing center for the USA and Mexicans even cross the boarder to be "enslaved" (cheap labor by their own will).
For the "Decadence" phase to be manifested, you have to have the members of the empire disatisfied and even uprise to start splitting up the people. It doesn't look like that's happening. Iraq is also a HUGE annex, because it holds much "black gold". ;)

I've grown to dislike reading magazines on the iPad for several reasons.
1. PPI of iPad too low
2. Appification of magazines (why have an app for each?)
3. Not passing along the cost savings saved in printing/shipping to us.
All I want is a subscription that cost less than the Amazon.com price, uses a common app (e.g. like Zinio) and a screen whose PPI is near the DPI of magazines.
What they're saving from not printing is being largely consumed by Apple's 30%.

There is zero logic to that assertion. It sounds like it came from Fox News.
Not really. The world market share (which, presumably, includes the US) is static. Apple's share in the US, has increased. Therefore, the market share in (some) other countries has decreased.

Also, my internet connection is a T1 and I have seen it go up to 5mb down 3mb up.
Then it isn't a T1.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Signal_1
3mbit/sec is still pretty slow for this. That's only 375K bytes/sec. A 600MB media file (the size of a CD, and apx. the size of an H.264-compressed full-length SD video) would take about a half-hour to transfer.
Now, with my 30mbit/sec Internet service, I expect to be able to transfer, from the biggest sites anyway, at maybe 20mbit/sec. At certain times of the day, I get the full 30. At 20, though, that 30 minutes shrinks to 4 minutes.
Depending on what kind of connections your users have, you could frustrate the heck out of them with this setup.
MOST businesses have no legitimate need for running online servers in-house. Certainly, for the typical web hosting, it almost never makes sense to do it in-house. Because of the large amount of storage needed in this case, though, what makes sense is probably co-location. You do need to minimize the physical size, because one component of colo charges is how many "U" (=1.75 inch) units the equipment occupies.
Colo facilities typically have "hands-on" support available. It can be fairly expensive (like $50/hour) but how long does it take to swap a hard drive? And with a RAID array, you could probably get by with no attention for a little while. If the place is in-town, you can go there yourself to replace a drive if needed. Otherwise, you give them a spare or two, and if something happens, they charge you, say, 15 minutes to swap out the drive (which will take them 5 minutes).

I benefit when Google tracks cell phones on the streets surrounding my location to provide me with reasonably accurate traffic conditions. I can then plan my route accordingly.
I doubt AT&T would do this, but if they took the real time data from this App and mapped it to a Google map, I could know when I should start an important call or begin a download of a new song or App. Over time, I could even see changes as AT&T addresses the most common problem areas.
The downside would be having to endure the Verizon TV ads, "Problematic 3G coverage? there's a Map for that" until they go away.
Think I'll just sit tight for iPhone 4GS for LTE.
