One thing you have to know is that IT people that work in schools are most likely political appointees, they know nothing and are worth nothing.
Make sure you get your laptop back.

Is it normal that I've had Office for Mac 2011 for about a year now? :/

Well if Apple is introducing a Movie Store, I'd hope that they have enough bandwidth to host their own introduction event... ;)
Well they did buy that huge data center a while back. What was it called again? A "tier 4" something or another.

I'm pretty excited about a new finder. With vista having such a cool (okay, it's lots of eyecandy and that sells right?) interface it is making aqua kind of dull.
I'm positive Apple can come up with something that works but looks good and not just vista's eye candy.

Just installed today and very happy.
Toromac--
I max mine out every day. Usually have open:
Photoshop
Rapidweaver
Parallels (virtual machine running XP)
Safari (of course)
iPhoto
Transmit
Mail, iCal, iTunes, etc.
blah blah blah.
Anyway, I was always having to close things to open others and now I have all of that stuff open but still have over 3GB available.
Iceman. Make the investment. It's a huge help to my day.
Btw, bought mine at Newegg.

I think its your connection or location... or something regionally specific to you.
Yes, remember that this is all Akamai'd or through some other company "edge cached". So if you are close (in a network sense) to a cache server that is not busy, you will get great streams, but if you are in a city that is somehow oversubscribed, you might be screwed. I am in Seattle and have not been able to get the stream to start. There are a lot of mac users here.
Possible issues:
- Load balancers in front of cache servers could be hitting some limits
- Servers with content over subscribed
- Network uplinks of caching site oversubscribed
That would be my guesses. You think your upset, I bet Steve Jobs is pissed as hell. It makes me wonder if there are better ways to do this if you don't want to pay for all the hardware needed to support 100 million views in the first 24 hours... Something like a queueing system that requires you to click on something when it is ready to serve you video. What must be killing them is all the people reloading and re-requesting the video.

The difference compared to the old one is to small. I assume that many iMac users with an iMac 2007/2008/2009/2010 don't buy a new one.
I assume you're reading the chart wrong. The new i5 is faster than the old i7, even though the i7 has hyperthreading but the i5 doesn't. That's pretty huge. It doesn't look like the new i7 has been benchmarked yet.
The processor upgrade in the new 27 inch line is just a marginal upgrade from the 27 inch core i7 2.93ghz 11,3 generation.
Based on what? Are there benchmarks out for the new i7 yet?
I do agree with you that it doesn't make sense for most people to upgrade from the previous generation, but I tend to feel that way about sequential updates in general. But this does look like it has the potential to be a nice improvement, and I think the TB ports allow the new machines to compete with the MPs in some ways they never have before.

Then let me revise my statement and say this is why other media should attempt to independently verify their sources and then add a dash of common sense.
Gruber specifically explains that any confirmed info is in his actual posts.
Any guesses or unconfirmed news is in his footnotes.
People make a lot of guesses and this was a good guess I believe.

And you must be totally void of imagination and creative intelligence. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why you hate apple.
Let me guess your an engineer type - who loves specs and rarely has a unique thought of your own.
My guess is "your" not....;)

At the Supermeet presentation, the guy said "And it's only $299, which means you don't have to decide who gets a copy" (or words to that effect). THe last bit was drowned out by the crowd, but he meant that you no longer have to give everyone FCP/Motion/Color/STP/Cinema Tools if all they need is FCP.
yes.
you guys keep in mind that ONLY FCP is 299. I think Final Cut Pro STUDIO will be around 500-600 Dollar. Still a "Pro-User" pricing so to speak. So most Pro's will go for the suite anyway. I think it's great that Apple is selling the programm itself for this price. It keeps Final Cut Pro alive and I hope that it will be updated more frequently because hopefully more people will use it.

Having been a CIT (prior to OIT) support staffperson at Princeton, I felt that the upper administration seemed to be focused on Windows (could it have been the academic-relationship with W. Gates, by its former VP of IT) and turned a cool shoulder toward the Mac.
Even colleagues there now, in systems, have a Mac Mini to be familiar with (however, they still use Windows and Unix ... but they need to. Adding or returning to the mac makes sense for students. It's just easier to use/configure).
Just remember that this requires the need for broader support. And for this, they (university comptrollers) need to start "allocating" funds to the right places.
Afterall, what good is a campus, that is now winning back mac-using students, but lacks the financial direction toward keeping "up with other campuses" by allocating value to those departments that assist the students, staff and administrators.
I applaud this news. Go Tigers!:)

Just bought the 11" Air for the wife as her Windows machine was on its last legs. She wanted something smaller than her old unit and also fancied getting into OS X after using my MacBook. I wanted an Air anyway so it worked out perfect.
I think if I was buying one for use by me more I'd get the 13" model but the 11" is more than usable for writing on. Refurbed 13" models are going for 13" MBP prices. Yes the MBP is more powerful but how much power do I need to write content!?
The 11" is just gorgeous though.

lets see it stores it or wifi? or if you experiencing cellular not data it will still work?

Anyone know if it'll run well enough to play on a 2007 MBP with 128 nVidia 8600m, c2d, 4gb ram?
I desperately want to buy this game but I'm very hesitant because I don't know if it'll run well enough on my system.

I almost find it more likely that an oled keyset, similar to this would be stuck in (http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/) a mac before a entirely touchpad interface, but then again, I'm not an apple exec.
that keyboard looks great. i'd definitely get one if it showed hotkeys for whatever pro app i was in...

For those 13" owners who are bothered with the fan noise, you really should check out coolbook. I've been running it since I first learned about it and its been fantastic. Battery lasts longer, MBA runs a lot cooler and fan speed has NEVER hit full speed since I started running it.
Absolutely, Coolbook was the solution for my 13" MBA too.
