So strange... so this school has an unprotected wireless network? No password, no encryption? If they setup proper protection only those allowed to use the network would be able to. Then you or anyone else could bring their laptop to school to take notes.
At the high school my daughter went to. They encouraged the students to all buy ibooks (2002). If you couldn't afford one, the school loaned you one. These were used in almost all classes and used to do research and writing assignments.

you would think by now they would have mastered the high demand keynote stream, but no, you'd be wrong.
I'm surprised that everyone casually excuses the failure to stream adequately, saying "but so many people are watching". Don't we criticize the phone company when it can't handle call volume that's expected, like around the holidays? Imagine if the movie you wanted to watch on cable tonight couldn't be viewed, because the cable company just couldn't serve all its customers. My point is, Apple's a computer company. More than that, it's one that promotes active multimedia use and consumption. Not being able to arrange sufficient servers for the necessary streams is an embarassment. Speaking as a shareholder, I don't like it.
Now, the suggestion that the talk should've been posted to the ITMS is insightful. Besides, how many of us would've paid $1.99 to see it NOW? I know i would have. Impulse buys are what fuel the itms, aren't they?

Can you enlighten us a bit more as to where you get these proportions? Looking at my 4GB MBA I see that there is nearly no free RAM, the page ins are at 1.52GB, and the page outs are a measly 22.6 MB with a swap of 6 MB. How does no free RAM equate with your rational above?
People go crazy seeing all these numbers and not understanding it, and thinking they have to upgrade their RAM/Computer... What is your total "Inactive" + "Free" RAM? That is the true number you should be looking at. Unix likes to fill your RAM with old memory incase you want to use it again to speed things up, this is "Inactive" RAM. If free ram gets filled, Unix will dump something in inactive memory before writing to the page file. But this is not something most consumers would know. All they know is "free" memory vs "used" memory. Most of them couldn't tell you what "Wired" means either... Maybe Apple should go with a dumbed-down version by default, and an advanced mode for those of us who know what it all means.
EDIT: Also, if these firmware numbers are correct, then nothing in the update has changed, contrary to what has been claimed. I remember this update, and i got it the day it came out, and I seem to have the firmware version they say I should have to unlock the 8GB, so it seems that the update never changed at all.

Either way ... I do not want to derail this thread too far from "the Jews owning the White House"
But they DO own the white house, haven't you heard?? Don't tell the Fhrer or he may attempt to invade us... shhhh...it's a big jew conspiracy :)

I've been running at 4.2ghz. My volts are very good too at 1.26, I did manage 4.4 @ 1.27v but wasn't stable enough under my current cooling. I upgraded the mobo to an Asus Rampage III Extreme and upgraded the PSU to a TX850 Corsair. I'm getting my old 1600w Ultra X3 replaced with the X4 and will probably run that as I want to add more GPUs to my system, more than likely 2 more 460s.
nice! hey did i hear they released a 460 x2?
Interesting how the 970 @ 4.2 is about 4-5 min faster than the 2600k @ 4.5 on the same WU.
edit: Forgot that it was a hexacore :)
yeah 6 cores make a difference. both are still great. looking forward to the next gen 6 and 8 cores from intel

Glad to see some robust competition...will only keep Apple honest and innovative.
This entire scenario is playing out like Windows / MacOS part 2 -- the vertically integrated MacOS (hardware + OS coming from same source) is beaten into obscurity by the OS that is available on a multitude of devices from many different manufacturers.
Every percentage point that Android ticks higher -- every million more Android customers that sign on due to BOGOs and heavily subsidized phones -- makes their customer base the more enticing one to develop for.
This type of competition won't keep Apple "honest and innovative" -- it'll just lead to what we saw before in the 80s and 90s: top software going to the competing platform with Apple grabbing at scraps.

Sorry, how does me not liking illegal immigrants make me racist? who says they have to be black? They can be any colour, from any part of the world..
You began your rant by saying that you were treated as a 2nd class citizen in your own country (which I honestly don't understand; are you being denied something that immigrants are getting???), and then followed up torbjoern's comment of "it's not your country anymore" by saying "illegal immigrants are so fantastic."
This heavily implies an underhanded racism and xenophobia because just about the only immigrants that could be illegal in any significant numbers in the UK are going to be non-white.
There's also an implication that your country is being taken over by some alien force, and I doubt you mean French, Norse, or German travelers when you make such veiled statements.

I wasn't surprised to read that Rosetta is faster than before. My recent upgrade from PPC 1.42 GHz to Intel 2.16 Ghz has made Photoshop fly. I don't really give a rat's hindquarters about Leopard (unless it's faster/more stable), but I am kinda excited about a UB PS.

I think the $999 iMac will be made available to the public at some point, just like the eMac was.
I can't see a $399 Core Duo mini for a while though.... Maybe a 1.6 GHz Core Solo version...
BYeah, Apple needs to make the Mac mini more lucrative. If the $999 iMac ever shows up I expect a price drop on the educational variant. Well Apple should drop the price..

well, if i got asked like that.. i will ask if they have any proof or not, and you can show them what are you doing that time, cuz that's strange.. schools' in my country usually forbid cellphone, but they could never forbid laptops, why? everytime we use their computer, it's so damn slow.. well, i think it's better to get suspended for like 1 day than giving away your mac, and risking your $1000++

The day the iPhone was introduced, the Smartphone Market became an iPhone-alike Market, and to produce an iPhone-alike phone, you need access to Apple's patents. That's what Nokia is after, or else it's dead. Making-out with Microsoft doesn't give Nokia everything it needs, and leaves it open to litigation: they say that attack is the best form of defence, so Nokia is just doing what it thinks it needs to do to survive.
I have relatives living in various 3rd-world countries, and even the less-well-off wouldn't buy a 3GS, but they are willing to pay top dollar (or the local eq) for the iPhone4.
Tanker-loads of Nokia faithful are dumping their Nokia phones for iPhones and Blackberrys -- even Android has a long fight ahead of it in these (non-geek/techy) markets.

Yawn.
Wake me up when it supports Exchange 2003 just like all of their Windows versions.
Que the one MS fanboy who will say it's old tech and Microsoft will never support it.
Guess the team that works on Office 2010 for the PC never got that memo since that works like a dream with Exchange 2003.
Or, you could be like the Office for Mac team and happily keep your head in the sand.

I love it when Google/Samsung/Sony/Motorola employees create new MacRumors accounts (join date Mar 2011) just to try to propagate garbage like this. Obviously trying to start a new antennagate. If you can't beat them in sales, try to start some bogus stories in the blogs and hope the media picks up on it.
THIS JUST IN: My iPad 2 is absolutely fine and its in my hands right now. Anybody else who really has one complaining?
Mine is fine. No bleed. I'm not sayin it does not exist, but mine is fine.

Just installed today and very happy.
Toromac--
I max mine out every day. Usually have open:
Photoshop
Rapidweaver
Parallels (virtual machine running XP)
Safari (of course)
iPhoto
Transmit
Mail, iCal, iTunes, etc.
blah blah blah.
Anyway, I was always having to close things to open others and now I have all of that stuff open but still have over 3GB available.
Iceman. Make the investment. It's a huge help to my day.
Btw, bought mine at Newegg.

especially compared to the whopping $400 for Vista Ultimate Edition (now with more branding!).
That is a riot.
(And my money is on the fact that Vista is not done until SP2, not SP1. They are still fixing this sucker through launch, so they're going to need to patch it fast.

musicians who travel a lot (like me) would not be happy with this at all. the process of miniaturization has allowed us to fill up the free space with more junk. i love that my powerbook is small and (mostly) all it needs is built inside. i got enough to worry about with my ipod and external drive. and yeah, something feels very 80s about this. keep thinking apple.
