The Tim Burton Exhibition

Sunday I spent the day in Melbourne seeing the two things I wanted to the most before flying home. The Tim Burton exhibition at ACMI and the Inscrutable Mystery Guide exhibition by Shag at the Outre Gallery. I'll post about Shag later.

Tim Burton has always been a massive inspiration to me. He is not only one of my favourite directors but he is also my favourite creative personalities. I adore his exaggerated forms, his twisted sense of humour and the the sense of darkness that he puts into his childlike creatures. If I had to have a dinner with five people alive or dead I'm pretty sure he would be one of them.
The lines were massive when I got in there which made it difficult to move. It also made me anxious because I wanted to run around and see everything. The first work I saw was a huge prop from Edward Scissor Hands. It was a tree sculpture in the shape of a dear that Edward had pruned. The exhibition started off with his very early art and letters through to his main stream success... ie the Alice in Wonderland and Batman costumes. Although the movie props/costumes were great it was his sketches/sculptures that really interested me.
Unfortunately there was no cameras allowed in the exhibition. But I was sneaky when I was in a dark room with one of his carousels. Phones aren't meant for photography in the dark. Dave was disappointed because he wanted to go but couldn't. I think i'd fly down again for another look before it closes.

I like.

For the last week i've been sick... Not cold sick more like unable to function or blog sick.... But I can keep down food and lurk the internet again so i'm happy. Sore but happy! There's a whole bunch of things going on in my life at the moment but i'll save them for later entries. I'm starting to sell off a bunch of my clothes because I can't afford my spending habits. I also cut up my credit card. Which will help. But not with my online spending. Seriously sometimes I don't think I should be allowed to have the internet!
Here are a few hand made finds that i'm loving!

My favourite Zombie Kitten skirt it fit like a glove! I was given it from Graig from Ruff N Ready. Check out their site there's some rad brands there.

I'm in love with this print from Miss Martin check out her Esty here.

I've been wanting this dress since May. It has waitresses on roller skates. So damn cute! Find On The Trashy Side here.

These cards are amazing! They are made by a husband and wife team and you can buy them here.

Frankenstein is one of my all time favourite guys and I recently bought these Mary Janes from Em & Sprout! They are so comfy I wish I could afford them in almost all the designs! Their Etsy is here.

I think I need a money tree.

Angelique's New Book

I knew it was only a matter of time before the queen of tattoo inspired art would release a book of line drawings to be used for inspiration/flash for tattoo artists. Imagine the crafty ways you could use her designs. The possibilities are endless! Head over to her site here and join her mailing list so you can get updates from her first.

I've written a few posts on her work before here and here.

Life Envy vol.3

I have written about Natalia Fabia in a previous post, she's a darling oil painter whose works blow me away. I wish she would have an exhibition over here... I've found a few pictures of her house which I love. It's quirky and cluttered and acts as her studio/work space. I love that she has her studio off from her bedroom because she works late at night then stumbles into bed covered in paint. Which is something I love to do when i'm being creative. I'm a total clutter bug so I can see myself living here. Oh I know it's tacky as hell but I think it's hilarious that she has pictures of people on the toilet above her toilet.

All pics from here.
Expect the first which is scanned from Inked magazine.

Tattoo Darling v.4

Matt Brotka
I'm glad I stumbled across Jacob Des and his Nothing But Regrets because otherwise I wouldn't of even known about his incredible paintings or his tattoos. His Joe Strummer painting left me speechless because I don't think I've ever seen a better artwork of my hero! His tattoo's are awesome as well! They are everything I like in a tattoo; strong, bold and colourful. Something that will age well rather than something so full of detail that it will be a ridiculous mess in ten years time.

Most pics from Matts blog.
His website is here.

More Naked Ladies

I found these gems via one of my favourite bloggers Gemma Jones. She is an artist, a writer, the creator of Kaotic Kraft Kuties and is the lucky lady who works at the Melbourne Outre Gallery. (Are you jealous yet?) Jessica Swaffer a tattooist from Melbourne painted a series of lovely ladies to raise money for a trip overseas. Some are traditional some are a little bit more naughty.
Enjoy.

Jessica can be found here.

Natalia Fabia

Natalia is just darling. I fell in love with her work after seeing her work in the August 09 issue of Juxtapose magazine. She is constantly popping up in photographs that I love. (see here and here)
Her oil paintings depict sassy young tattooed creatures in the greatest of detail. She surrounds herself with colourful personalities, artists, pin ups, burleque dancers and strong sexy women who are the subjects of her paintings. These small images don't do these works justice.
I love that she uses glitter in her pieces!
Her website is here but I can't get it to work on my computer.

Amie Lee Trash

Yesterday I got home from work to find this amazing print below in a tube in my fusebox! This was done by the lovely lady Amie Lee Trash a tattooist and total spunk from Hervey bay. Here's some more eye candy you might enjoy... I know I do! Cupcakes and zombies and trash OH MY! I can't wait to see what new trashy goodness that she will create!
Amie is currently working at Fraser Coast Tattoo.
All pics taken from here except photo of print taken by me.
