Cheryl cole break

Stars line up to help Cheryl Cole break US

Grammy award winner John Legend is the latest US star to volunteer to help Cheryl Cole make it big in the States.

Grammy award winner John Legend is the latest US star to volunteer to help Cheryl Cole make it big in the States.

Legend told a tabloid a newspaper that he believes that the Girls Aloud singer could go on to become a big star in the States.

He told the Daily Star: "Whatever Cheryl needs, I'm glad to help. But I'm sure she will be fine.
"It's big her getting the job on the X Factor USA. A lot of people don't know her in the States, but they will now."

However, he admitted he won't actually be watching his pal Cheryl on the TV talent show.

He explained: "I'm not much of a talent show watcher so I won't be tuning in personally.

"When you do it professionally, it's hard to watch talent shows, but I know it's good for everybody else so I'll just be a little snob in my corner while the rest of the world is tuning in."

Speaking of how he would like more gigs in the UK, he added: "I've done a festival everywhere but in the UK.

"I heard the track I did with a Magnetic Man song went down well in the UK which I'm happy about.

"I was there in November with The Roots, and that was fabulous. We played Jools Holland which was a lot of fun."

Genealogists believe the Twilight star is related to the notorious 15th-century ruler Vlad the Impale

Genealogists believe the Twilight star is related to the notorious 15th-century ruler Vlad the Impale

Not to sound batty, but it appears vampire blood may really run through Robert Pattinson's veins.
Genealogists this week said they believe the Twilight star, 24, is related to the notorious 15th-century ruler Vlad IV Tzepesch ... better known as Vlad the Impaler, widely considered to be the inspiration for the title character in author Bram Stoker's classic tale of darkness, Dracula.
According to the family history Web site Ancestry.com, researchers discovered that the English actor and the world's most famous vampire are related through, of all people, the British Royal Family.
In fact, insist the Ancestry experts, Princes William and Harry are Pattinson's distant cousins, while ol' Vlad was their distant uncle.
"Tracing Pattinson's family back to Vlad was difficult research, but the pieces that unraveled created the perfect accompaniment to the Twilight Saga," says Anastasia Tyler, a genealogist at Ancestry.com. "Without any myth or magic, we find royalty and vampires lurking in Pattinson's life – making his story just as supernatural as the one he's playing on screen."
Just in case you've been living under a rock – or in your coffin – for the past few weeks, the third instalment in the series, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, opens on July 1.

Knight and Day: Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz get up to some frisky business

Film Review: Knight and Day (2 stars)

Mid-way through this almost impossibly action-packed movie, it occurred to me that watching Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz shoot, strangle and dismember their way through some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth felt strangely like watching cats.
Bear with me. You ever stop to watch a cluster of kittens in a store window? They’re adorably random things, haphazardly chasing their own and others’tails, pouncing on invisible objects or stopping suddenly to groom. Sometimes they even fall asleep unexpectedly.About the only thing you can be sure of is that they won’t up and start driving fast cars or shooting people.

Well, Cruise and Diaz are just like two of those adorable, can’t-take-your-eyes-off-them kittens, except you know the only thing they will do is drive fast cars and shoot people. Cruise does most of the work, though Diaz, like fellow LBA (leggy blond actress) Katherine Heigl in the recent Killers, gets in a few well-placed shots.

The film revolves around a newly invented battery that can power a small city, a large submarine or a mid-sized Scientology convention. It’s about the size of a double-A. It’s called the zephyr, a word whose two real-life definitions are a) a thin cotton material, which describes most of Diaz’s wardrobe; or b) the lightest of breezes, which sums up the film’s dramatic impact.

Since the battery is never actually used to power anything, not even Cruise’s trailer, its entire purpose is to give the characters a small round object to chase. A ball of yarn would have done just as well.

Cruise, whose character is unobtrusively named Roy Miller, first bumps into Diaz (as June Havens) in an airport in Wichita, which was one of the film’s working titles. After he arranges for her to be on the same mostly empty plane as he is, it’s revealed that he’s Trouble, Man (another working title). There’s a mid-air shootout followed by a fiery crash landing.

I should save time here by mentioning that the film also includes (in no particular order) a rooftop chase, a fight in a kitchen, a tropical island, a freeway shootout, a gunfight in a warehouse, a plunge into a river, a passing parade, a fight on a train, a motorcycle chase and a running battle through the narrow streets of a European city. It’s as though screenwriter Patrick O’Neill just borrowed and glued together bits and pieces from every other action movie in history. He then must have paused and thought: “Hmm, should I include the running of the bulls in Seville; an Austrian location to let someone say, ‘vere ist zee battery?’ before getting smacked with a bratwurst; or a plot? I’ve only got room for two.” Guess which ones he picked.

The co-stars have a certain onscreen chemistry, but most of it CHCl3, also known as chloroform. Every time O’Neill’s script backs the characters into a corner, Cruise slips Diaz some knockout drops. She wakes up in an entirely different scene, momentarily out of danger. Remember how kittens can fall asleep without warning? Same concept, except there’s something creepy about Cruise constantly drugging his love interest.

Besides, they’re both more slightly interesting when awake. Miller is introduced as a CIA agent who may gone off the deep end, thus giving him a license to order pie à la mode in the midst of a hostage taking, and to natter on like a manic-depressive at the top of his swing. He also does a funny bit about June’s survival chances “with me, without me,” holding his hand high and then dropping it down -- though mostly that just made me remember that she’s two inches taller than him.

to creamy little dresses! Ever since she hit the premiere promotion circuit she has dolled herself up in nude frock after nude frock. The New Moon cutie wore her latest tonal dress just the other night for an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Though she does look very pretty, we can’t help feeling the need for a splash of colour to liven things up a bit. What do you think? And which nude frock do you like?

Like her older sisters Kim and Kourtney, the brunette has inherited a shapely figure.

The pop star arrived at Los Angeles airport with a bare face which she kept largely hidden underneath a trilby hat and oversized black sunglasses.
The 25-year-old even had a few red spots, proving that like most other women, she's prone to the occasional outbreak too.

Russell Brand

Out and about: Russell Brand had dinner with friends in Beverly Hills last night while Katy attended a Taylor Swift concert
Katy's fiance Russell Brand sat the evening out, deciding instead to go for dinner with a male friend in Beverly Hills.
The comedian has found himself in hot water again this week after saying 'teenyboppers' should take heroin - in the hope it would ‘weed a lot of them out’ through drug overdoses.
Speaking in the new issue of  US music magazine Rolling Stone, Brand - a reformed heroin addict himself - said exposing young stars to the killer drug would be his way of saving the music industry.
Brand - who is the proud patron of a drug and alcohol rehab centre  - grotesquely joked it would be a ‘Darwinian’ way of improving music because many of the young stars would die.
As a result, according to Brand, ‘we would be spared their awful music.’
Former drug addict Brand, 35, said: ‘The top of the hit parade would look very different if teenyboppers were exposed to heroin. It would weed a lot of them out.’
Last night, David Raynes of the Drug Prevention Alliance said: ‘This is mindless idiocy.
‘It smacks of a desperate attention seeking from Brand. It’s just ridiculous. You despair of these people – why would anyone say that?’

Elin reportedly furious about new Tiger ad

Elin reportedly furious about new Tiger ad

‘I wouldn't be surprised if she files for divorce sometime soon,’ source says

He's gone to rehab and resumed his golf career, but Tiger Woods's marriage is as wobbly as ever, sources tell PEOPLE.

His wife Elin Nordegren skipped the golf star’s big comeback at the Masters and was described as disgusted and outraged by his Nike commercial featuring a voiceover by his late father. After Woods finished the tournament, coming in fourth, Nordegren flew out of Florida without her husband and their two children – they were left with nannies – for a destination unknown, friends say.

"Elin was violently angry over this commercial and thought it was a cheesy thing to do," one friend tells PEOPLE. "She wouldn't have gone near the Masters under any condition, but that just made her madder. She is over Tiger. I wouldn't be surprised if she files for divorce sometime soon."

"She's so far beyond hurt now. If she were angry or if she hated him, they might still have a chance to work it out. But she's beyond that. She's numb. She just doesn't care anymore. She's like, 'Whatever.' Elin's not the type to get all weepy or have pity parties for herself. She mourned the loss of this marriage, and now she's moving on. It's the only thing she can do."

Sarah Jessica Parker: Sex and the City 2 'was the best'

Sarah Jessica Parker: Sex and the City 2 'was the best'

Sarah Jessica Parker graces the May issue of Vogue, which coincides with the release of her new movie ‘Sex and the City 2’. According to a press release, the Vogue cover is intended to honor the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s ‘American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity’ exhibit.

Brand SJP
SATC reflects how successful women have changed perceptions over time and Parker’s involvement is quite obvious. “It's hard to define precisely when it was that the Carrie Bradshaw brand turned into the Sarah Jessica Parker brand, but the transition was definitely made,” writes Vogue contributing editor Vicki Woods.

Parker and her co-stars Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall had a ball while filming the movie. Shooting for the television series and then for the movies over time has brought them all really close and Parker says this time it was all the more fun because they got to stick around with each other.

“This movie – and maybe it's because we actually lived together – it was the best! We were together all day long, at night, in restaurants, in our hotels,” says Parker. “It was wonderful.”

Aging is amusing to them
Since they have a funny, humorous approach towards everything, including the graying of their hair, the ladies really had a good time.

Expect some menopause comedy as Parker says, “Samantha was always the older lady, so she's 52 now and talks a lot about what comes with that.”

Chris Noth insists that despite the aging concerns, a third movie could be in line. “We're married now. If we make another one where we're grandparents, we'd still have a good time,” said Noth.

Kate Gosselin: ‘I Won’t Lose My Kids’

This is one dance Kate Gosselin has grown tired of.

As she prepares to promote her book, I Just Want You to Know: Letters to My Kids on Love, Faith and Family, and competes on Dancing with the Stars, the mom of eight is facing another fight with ex-husband Jon Gosselin over custody and child support.

But as much as she dreads another round of legal skirmishes, she says that fear is playing no role.

"I'm not afraid I'll lose my kids," she tells PEOPLE in this week's issue, on newsstands Friday. "I won't lose my kids. We're glued together, as a package, and nothing, nothing, will stop me from being with my kids."

Claiming she's not spending enough time with her children because of her work demands, Jon is seeking primary custody – which Kate now has – and a re-evaluation of the $21,000 in monthly support payments he's ordered to make.

TV actress Pamela Anderson has admitted she's not too keen on being a part of the big-screen version of the hit surf show "Baywatch".

Jon and Kate Gosselin Latest news

Jon and Kate Gosselin Latest news

Ate Gosselin, mom of 8 and wife of Jon and the star of TLC’s Jon and Kate Plus 8 has offered some perspective to the woman who gave birth to 8 babies in California yesterday! Gosselin shared her thoughts with ParentDish.com. “I would say, first of all, congratulations on your hard hard work — getting your babies here safe and sound!,” she beamed. “Second, hold on. The NICU is quite a scary ride. Finally, you can do this — from now until forever, you will struggle with a gamut of emotions but you can and you will be okay.”
Gosslin went on to share that like all new moms, sometimes she might feel overwhelmed.” But unlike moms of singles or twins, moms of remarkable multiples will be barraged by outsiders. People will pop up with advice when they have no idea [of] the situation.”
California mom should also prepare for a “loss of privacy, and loneliness,” Gosselin said. “It’s all survivable, though, if you are determined enough.”
Although the California octuplets were born surprisingly healthy for multiples, they are still in the NICU. Their doctors said that the next seven days will be critical for all eight babies.
Kate says that she and husband Jon got through the NICU with “Lots of prayer!” She also mentions that “our babies sailed through the NICU. But that was rare and a miracle to say the least.”

He's awesome in challenges

He's awesome in challenges

He's awesome in challenges
Janice keeps calling him fearless, and she's not wrong. So far he's gamely participated in any challenge thrown at him, and he's been a force to be reckoned with. During a recent challenge he was shackled in a box filled with water, crocodiles and snakes and he was able to immediately focus and unlock himself at a dizzyingly quick pace.
He's sweet
When reprimanded for sharing food with the starving girls who can't win a food challenge to save their lives, his first instinct was still to be selfless, even if it means that the entire camp gets less. That's just a nice guy. He's also the first to pitch in and help in order to make everyone else's lives easier.
He likes nature
He seems to genuinely be enjoying living in the outdoors and communing with the animals. He's tried talking with monkeys and just generally seems at ease.
He's brave
He's not just willing to face tough challenges, he's also brave enough to give Janice a backrub and hold her when she's upset. That's the most terrifying thing we can think of.
He's funny
He seems like the camp clown, always on hand to do a goofy happy dance when his team wins a challenge and he sings on cue. And compared to Heidi, he's practially Grammy worthy.
He knows when to keep his mouth shut
While Frangela was fighting with Spencer, or when Daniel Baldwin went on an anti-Janice rant, or when Speidi and Stephen Baldwin got all up with Jesus, Sanjaya just stood by and nodded politely.
He's crafty
Not in that manipulative kind of way, but he's clever enough to come up with brooms, bracelets, and even likes to whittle in his spare time.
He doesn't complain
The kid is completely covered in bug bites, has done some of the nastiest tasks ever and yet, he hasn't whined at all about anything. He hasn't even griped about how he was basically America's whipping boy for months during his "Idol" season. He just does his thing, and for that we're grateful.

Sanjaya: From 'Idol'

Sanjaya: From 'Idol'

On September 19, 2006, Malakar, a shy teen, entered the open audition for American Idol at the Seattle Center in Seattle, with his sister Shyamali. Simon Cowell commented that Sanjaya had a better voice than his sister. Both were advanced to the Hollywood round unanimously by the judges. Malakar cited Stevie Wonder as his idol, and sang one of Wonder's signature songs, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" at his Seattle audition.

For his next performance, in Hollywood, Malakar sang "Some Kind of Wonderful". He was shown tearfully embracing his sister when she was cut, though he progressed to the Top 40. Next, Malakar sang "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". The judges were largely critical of his performance, though Simon Cowell admitted that Malakar is popular with the voters while Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul gave a more positive appraisal of his "You Really Got Me" performance in the Top 11. A 13-year-old girl named Ashley Ferl was highlighted repeatedly during Malakar's performance in the Top 11 episode, crying tears of joy, although Ferl also cried for Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks, and many other contestants.

On March 27, 2007, Malakar sang No Doubt's "Bathwater" wearing a strikingly peculiar fauxhawk made from multiple ponytails. The style was called the "ponyhawk" by host Ryan Seacrest. While singing, Malakar hesitated with some of the words to the song. Simon Cowell remarked, "Sanjaya, I don't think it matters anymore what we say ... I think you are in your own universe and if people like you, good luck." The following night, host Seacrest walked out on stage wearing a wig with the same hairstyle, parodying Malakar.

On April 3, Tony Bennett was the featured celebrity on the show, and he met with each performer. Malakar sang "Cheek to Cheek", wearing a white suit, donning a slick hairstyle (with a recent cut), and dancing with judge Paula Abdul. Abdul commented " I get it. I get why people love you. You are charming."On the following April 4 results show, it was revealed that Malakar had finished in the "middle three," among nine contestants.

Malakar's performance of "Bésame Mucho" in the Top 8 on April 10 was his first unanimously well-received performance by the judges in the finals of the competition. During rehearsals Jennifer Lopez remarked, "I like this kid. I love Sanjaya!" after hearing him sing in Spanish, the only one of the remaining eight contestants to do so on the Latin-theme night.Randy Jackson commented, "You’re one of the smartest contestants I've ever met. That was actually really good. It was," while Simon Cowell offered the halting, "I'm going to hate myself for this. It wasn't horrible." Malakar continued on, entering the Top 7, following that performance on the April 11 results show.

After performing Something to Talk About on the previous night, Malakar was placed in the bottom three and was subsequently eliminated in 7th place on April 18, 2007. Singing his farewell performance, after the line "let's give them something to talk about", he ad libbed "other than hair" in place of "how about love".

American Idol's ratings dropped 9% in the episode following Malakar's elimination, which was Idol Gives Back, a charity episode featuring many celebrity guests. The music news website Moldolva.org that reported this directly correlated it to Malakar's departure.
